MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A Memphis bail bond company is no longer doing business because its owner was convicted in a scheme involving a drug kingpin.
The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports that ten Shelby County judges signed an order forbidding Nationwide Bail Bonding from writing any more bail bonds, while calling the company a “sham and a farce.” The judges said the bonding company has misled the courts since 1999, when it was first approved to do business.
Records show that company owner Geraldine Galloway was convicted on federal money-laundering charges in 2005 for purchasing a pickup truck with drug proceeds from an operation run by Memphis native Craig Petties. He was convicted of charges ranging from ordering murders to drug trafficking.
State law forbids convicted felons from operating a bail bond company.
